Who we are

Our Centre, which includes the services of Neurology, Ophthalmology, Molecular Genetics, Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery and Pathology Units and an Emergency Headache Centre has been officially recognised as reference centre for rare vascular diseases of the central nervous system and the retina.

The Centre, known as CERVCO (Reference Centre for rare diseases of the blood vessels in the brain and eye, Centre de Référence pour les maladies rares des Vaisseaux du Cerveau et de l'Oeil), includes all the departments in Lariboisière Hospital involved in the treatment of rare vascular diseases of the retina, brain or spinal cord.

CERVCO undertakes a range of activities:

  • To improve the treatment of rare diseases by working with all clinicians in France and with the relevant associations of families,
  • To set up treatment protocols for these diseases and adapt them regularly in line with progress in research,
  • To circulate all useful information nationally to patients, their families and all doctors or healthcare workers treating these diseases,
  • To improve knowledge of the mechanisms of these diseases through the research developed within CERVCO because this is essential for the development of new therapies.
